Happy Spring LAPT!
As I reflect on the past year and all its ups and downs, I can't help but think about how play therapists have discovered new ways to help service the children and caregivers of our community. We adapted to tele-health, created virtual play rooms, supported our clients when they faced racism and cultural biases, worked through our own struggles and grief, had to recover and rebuild our homes and practices and reworked and reimagined our idea of play. As Play Therapists, we examined our own biases and pushed ourselves to confront tough issues within ourselves so we could support the children and caregivers we work with. We also found new ways to learn online and attended training and workshops online (including our annual conference) and still found ways to connect and collaborate in the name of play!
Now as 2021 is moving forward we are continuing to change and evolve here at LAPT. We have modernized our website so it can be more user friendly as well as a better resource for our members. The LAPT board will also be working on bringing more resources and workshops that reflect the diverse population of our members and the children we serve.
I truly love the work I do as an RPT and I am proud and honored to service as LAPT's president. Please feel free to reach out to me at la4ptpresident@ gmail.com if there is something I can do for you, what you feel you might need from LAPT, or just to say why you love being a play therapist!
